The Jim Bill McInteer Manuscript Collection

This collection contains Jim Bill McInteer’s professional and personal correspondence from 1966-2008. His inimitable writing style, familiar to everyone he called friend, is captured in hundreds of thank-you notes, condolences, and congratulatory letters.

The collection houses McInteer’s correspondence with major leaders in Churches of Christ of the second half of the 20th Century. In addition, this corpus provides an intimate glimpse into his ministry at the West End Church of Christ in Nashville and his tenure as editor and publisher of 20th Century Christian. The logistics of a gentleman farmer, traveling preacher, camp director, Harding University Board of Trustees member, and after dinner speaker are all meticulously recorded via his IBM Selectric. In an era before cell phones, email, and internet, McInteer was maestro of the Dictaphone and carbon copy. The sheer volume of his correspondence during his life of Christian service is as worthy of admiration as his way with words.
