Whatever leads you to think about graduate theological studies, we invite you consider a lifetime of learning and growing in Christ as a part of our student body.
Over the years I have audited many classes at HST because I adore learning more about our God, and His messages given in the Bible. The professors at HST always broaden my understanding and knowledge, while not zooming over my head in class. They welcome my questions and consider my thoughts. I love learning, but am past wanting to take tests, write papers or make presentations, so this auditing route is perfect for me.
Thank you, HST, for providing this wonderful service and ministry! — Margie B.
Mike O’Neal, HST Alumnus and former NASA engineer, shares his experience as a second-career student at HST.
HST provides several options for lifelong learning.
HST’s YouTube Channel: For an informal experience or just to get to know us, you may visit our YouTube channel. We offer devotionals and brief lessons that can boost your personal devotional life or serve as conversation starters for Bible classes or small groups. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from our students and alumni about their HST experience.
Auditing: An auditor takes a course, but does not receive a grade or academic credit. Some auditors will read all of the assigned texts and even write papers and take exams. Others will simply come to the class meetings to hear the lectures.
- For churches that financially support the school, members may audit select courses at a minimal fee. (Church audit program)
- HST MDIV and DMIN alumni may audit courses at a reduced rate.
Certificate in Spiritual Leadership: The Certificate in Spiritual Leadership (CSL) is a powerful resource for church leaders. It is a 21-hour certificate program, with five core classes and two electives. The courses are available in distance education format, which includes on-line and one-week intensives. CSL students take courses for credit alongside degree students.
Degree Programs: Whether you are considering a second career or just wanting to follow a curated path of biblical, spiritual, and leadership growth, a degree program might be the option for you. All HST master’s degrees are available online with minimal residency requirements (and, of course, our degrees are also available on our Memphis campus!).
As a long-time Bible class teacher – and later an elder – I realized the need for deeper knowledge of Scripture and how to interpret and apply it to real life situations and circumstances. The opportunity to audit HST classes helps me keep growing toward that goal. — Earl M.
