HST partners with Wellsprings in the Wilderness and Dr. Grant Azbell (M.Div., 2014) to offer spiritual direction training to HST students for up to six hours of elective course credit. Students who successfully complete all six hours of coursework meet the training requirements for membership in Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association. Students are not required to take all six hours (two years of training), but students who enroll should intend to complete at least three hours (one year of training).

Training is offered over five weekends (Friday and Saturday) during the academic year on the HST campus. HST students register for the training like regular courses. Each course includes a $100 fee for meals. HST students must successfully complete 5801-5803 Theological Foundations for Ministry as prerequisites. Others who are not HST students may register for the training directly through Wellsprings in the Wilderness.
