At HST local and distance students learn side by side with HST LIVE (Live Interactive Video Education). Distance students remotely attend weekly classes that meet on campus along with local students. Whether you are on campus or online, you will participate in live class discussions (in real time) along with other students in the classroom and around the world.
HST LIVE uses an online platform that allows you to interact with professors and students no matter where you are. With HST LIVE, distance students are on a screen at the front of the class visible to the other students (in class or at home) and professor. If you are online, you see the classroom as well as the other distance students on your monitor at home. When you speak in class from, the camera is situated so that the local students are looking right at you, making virtual eye contact. If you are in the classroom, you see and interact with distance students as though they are in the room with you. Responding to a professor’s questions and illustrations or asking your own questions about classroom material is essentially like being in the room.
Even distance students participate in classroom leadership. For example, in many courses students research a topic and present their findings in the classroom. Distance students are able to present slides and videos to the class just as the local students do, receiving immediate feedback from both peers and the professor.
Local and distance students work together to create a supportive community of peers growing together.
